Paul Haustein

German, 1880–1944

Paul Haustein was a German designer and artist specializing in metalwork, ceramic, furniture, and graphic design with an education from the Kunst­gewerbes­chule (School of Arts and Crafts). Early in his career, he was was publishing designs in the magazine "Jugend" where he met the ceramist J. J. Scharvogel and inspired him to pursues his craftwork career. He later received a prize for his design works exhibited at the 1903 World Exhibition and was appointed to the artists' colony in Darmstadt in the same year and was the beginning of his journey in interior decorating. Then in 1905, he began his 30-year teaching tenure at the Kunst­gewerbes­chule in Stuttgart. Paul’s career was one of experimentation and was very inventive with enameled silver and brass - which many of his work was created from and he is one of Art Decos most innovative artists with a very successful collaboration with WMF Ikora Germany.
